Swiss play on euthanasia to be staged in Moscow theater

The play Alice's Trip to Switzerland by Swiss playwright Lukas Barfuss will be staged in one of Moscow's theaters, according to RIA Novosti.

Lukas Barfuss is one of the famous German speaking playwrights. His plays have been staged in Zurich, Bern, Hamburg and Berlin. Alice’s Trip to Switzerland, a play where the characters are trying to understand whether a person has the right to euthanasia, will be the first of Barfuss’ plays staged in Russia.

“But this play is about love, love against death. About love which alone can resist death. Alice wants to make this move, tries to cross the border of life and voluntarily come to death. But the worst barrier for her is love for her mother and that she will have to leave her alone. Today, when the attitude to the main concepts for people such as love and death is changing, I think it is necessary to discuss these issues,” stage director Victoria Zvyagina said.
