US SECRETARY OF STATE APPRECIATED ARMENIA'S INVOLVEMENT IN COMBATING INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM
Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian met with US Secretary of State Colin Powell in Tbilisi January 25. As reported by RA MFA press service, the parties discussed the issues of bilateral relations, struggle against terrorism, as well as the cooperation in preventing the spreading of weapons of mass destruction. At that the US Secretary of State appreciated Armenia's involvement in these activities. The parties also touched upon the regional problems paying special attention to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations. The ministers gave positive asset to the Armenian-Turkish dialogue and mentioned the role of the US in achieving certain results. The present situation in Iraq was as well considered. V. Oskanian confirmed Armenia's readiness to take active part in the programs of the post-war reconstruction of Iraq, particularly in the technical and humanitarian spheres. V. Oskanian and C. Powell also exchanged opinions on the process and perspectives of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. They viewed the possibilities of achieving concrete results with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group and pointed out the importance of immediate negotiations between the Armenian and Azeri Presidents. The issues of the Karabakh settlement have been also discussed at the meeting of Vardan Oskanian and OSCE acting chairman, Bulgarian foreign minister Solomon Passi. To remind, V. Oskanian arrived in Tbilisi to participate in the ceremony of inauguration of Georgia's President Mikhail Saakashvili.
