UN SECRETARY GENERAL APPROVED ARMENIAN PRIME MINISTER'S PROPOSAL ON ANNOUNCING 2005 AS YEAR OF STRUGGLE AGAINST WARS AND GENOCIDE
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan approved Armenian Prime Minister's proposal Andranik Margarian on announcing 2005 as the year of struggle against wars, genocide, deportations and violations of human rights. To note, the meeting of the UN Secretary General and the Armenian Prime Minister took place in Stockholm within the framework of the "Prevention of Genocide, Threats and Responsibility" 4-th international forum. According to a report by RA government's press service, A. Margarian also met with President of Albania Alfred Moisiu, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas as well as well-known expert of the Genocide issues, Nobel Prize winner Eli Vizel in Stockholm. E. Vizel stressed the importance of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, noting that during the meetings with Turkish officials and scientists he does advise them to alleviate the historical burden.
