Acting themselves: Backstage of Festival De Cannes
featured story: Vahan Stepanyan / PAN Photo Agency
Red carpet, fake smiles, ignored cries for attention, screaming fans and made up couples are just the curtain of what is called Cannes Festival. In fact, its real face is hidden at the backstage, where all the eye-hurting sparkles and flashlights get replaced with human feelings and looks. The ones that skip cameras, get finally relaxed and act out, the ones that don't, concentrate on the one and two luckies who appeared in that private or not so much territory, Catching harsh or truly heartwarming words concerning the premiere, seeing a not-from-this-world star calling home to ask for the recent news, observing the really nervous and supporting spirit of the film cast before the premiere, reveals today's cinema's inner world, covered by spotless tuxedos and high heels. Seems like you can never guess what do these high-end actors really feel about all the mess around themselves, they can make you believe to any emotion they show. But here in the backstage, even the actors play themselves.Concentrating on this hardly ever resulted in commercial success and acknowledgement-things that most people run after getting into the Cannes. But I believe that is something people outside the curtains should see, Concerned about what really happens behind the curtains, I tried to capture very single real expression of the people that love to pretend.
