Armenian presidential candidate to go on hunger strike

The Central Election Committee (CEC) of Armenia rejected the statement of presidential hopefulAndrias Ghukasyan, demanding for the candidate of the ruling party Serzh Sargsayn to be disallowed to run for president.

CEC head noted that the administrative bodies are authorized to fulfill all of the functions, listed in RA Constitution.

“The statements is unfounded and may set a precedent,” Tigran Mukuchyan said.

The CEC meeting was followed by a press briefing, with Mr Ghukasyan announcing a decision to go on a hunger strike for an indefinite term on Jan 21.
