"Nightcrawler" slightly wins against "Ouija" in Halloween weekend race

It was a tight race between "Nightcrawler" and "Ouija" on the U.S. weekend box office with the former winning the position by mere thousand dollars. "Nightcrawler" earned $10,909,000 while "Ouija" ended up with a $10,900,240 projected total, according to AceShowbiz.

"This is a photo-finish, a dead heat, this rarely happens," says Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Rentrak. "We'll see how this all shakes out. We're taking about a difference of less than $10,000 here, which is pretty remarkable." The final numbers will be revealed on Monday, November 3.

It is a huge win for "Nightcrawler" which was made on an $8.5 million budget. "We are excited about it," CMO of Open Road Films, Jason Cassidy, told EW. "It's a great movie and it's been so well reviewed. We think we'll have a nice run on it."

"Ouija" has accumulated $35 million after opening with $20 million and taking the first place last weekend. At the third place, "Fury" held strong with approximately $9.1 million, followed by "Gone Girl" with an estimated $8.8 million. "The Book of Life" rounded up the top 5 with approximately $8.3 million.
