Turkey’s police detain 30 Islamic State suspects

Turkey's police have detained some 30 people in pre-dawn raids on suspected Islamic State militants, a day after a similar operation left seven militants and two police officers dead, the Associate Press reports citing a Turkish state-run news agency.

Anadolu Agency said the suspects were detained Tuesday, October 27 in the city of Konya and the nearby town of Cumra. The Dogan news agency said the suspects, including a woman, were being questioned by anti-terrorism police.

On Monday, police stormed a house used by a suspected IS cell in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, triggering a clash that left nine dead.

Turkey has expanded operations against the group following suicide bombings of a peace rally in Ankara on October 10, which killed 102 people. The government came under criticism for failing to prevent the attack.
