RA FM noted importance of consultations with NATO on RA foreign policy and security
Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels September 4, the RA MFA press office reported.

The Armenian Minister noted the importance of the Individual Partnership Action Plan, specifically the development of the republic's national security, establishment of the NATO Information Center in Yerevan, opening of the crisis management center and launching of legislative initiatives targeted at reformation in the defense sector.

He gave a high estimation to the assistance rendered by the NATO member states and welcomed the appointment of new NATO South Caucasus Liaison Officer.

The interlocutors referred to organization of Armenia-NATO political consultations in "26+1" format and Armenia's participation in NATO events.

The NATO Secretary General assessed the organization's cooperation with the South Caucasian states on the threshold of NATO summit scheduled for April 2008 in Bucharest.

Exchange of views on the Kosovo issue, situation in Afghanistan and some regional developments was followed by a discussion of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
