French Embassy introduced biometric visa process in Armenia
To ensure security and combat illegal migration, the French Embassy in Yerevan will introduce a biometric visa process from October 6, 2008.

All persons who appealed for visa will have to attend the Embassy and produce a digital photo. They will also be fingerprinted, Mr. Jackie Charotte, French Consul in Armenia, told reporters today.

"This system has already been introduced in 20 French Embassies, including Georgia. It will be introduced in 50 more Embassies from 2009. Such system functions in the British, U.S. and Bulgarian Embassies," he said, adding that the new system will not cause extra inconveniences but will help struggling illegal migration.

According to official data, some 1400 people illegally migrated from Armenia to France last year.
