Gor Gevorgyan exits Armenia's ruling Mt Step bloc

Lawmaker Gor Gevorgyan is leaving Armenia's ruling Mt Step bloc and will continue working as an independent member of parliament, Gevorgyan himself said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 1.

"Institutional solutions to problems facing Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Armenia can be achieved only through national unification, political stability, unconditional return to the Armenian Constitution," Gevorgyan said.

The MP cited "fundamental disagreements over a number of key, problematic issues facing the state" behind his decision to leave My Step.

Lawmaker Taguhi Tovmasyan earlier left the bloc to also serve as an independent MP.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side is returning all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
