A voting to elect Armenian Ombudsman has launched at the National Assembly of Armenia.

As a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent reported, the results will be announced upon completion of an hour-long voting. Coalition parliamentary groups support the candidacy of Karen Andreasyan; ARF Dashnaktsutyun intends to vote against.

According to Armenian Constitution, the candidature of the Ombudsman should be supported by a minimum of 1/5 MPs; a minimum of 3/5 MPs is required to vote in favor of the Ombudsman-to-be-elected. The Ombudsman is elected for the term of 6 years.

Former Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan resigned to take up the position of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Representative in Central Asia.
