India’s Trajan 155mm chosen to upgrade Armenia’s artillery

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has opted for India's Trajan 155mm towed artillery system to advance its military modernization efforts, as reported by The Economic Times on January 15, 2025.

This marks a significant step in Armenia’s defense strategy and showcases a growing partnership with India, which now extends to a variety of advanced technologies, including missile systems, radars, and rockets.

Faced with evolving regional security concerns, including tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and strained relations with Azerbaijan, Armenia has prioritized the modernization of its forces. By incorporating India's Trajan howitzer, Armenia diversifies its defense partnerships.

The Trajan artillery system, jointly developed by Bharat Forge and French defense firm Nexter (now KNDS), offers state-of-the-art capabilities with a firing range exceeding 40 kilometers, exceptional precision, and adaptability to both offensive and defensive operations. Designed for quick deployment and operation, its modular build and automated systems provide speed, firepower, and accuracy critical for modern combat scenarios.

India’s defense exports to Armenia are not limited to artillery. The collaboration extends to multi-barrel rocket systems like Pinaka, medium-range surveillance radars such as Arudhra, and air defense platforms, including the Akash missile system. These acquisitions aim to enhance Armenia's situational awareness, artillery support, and aerial defense, vital for maintaining regional stability and deterring threats.

Armenia is also considering the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a move that could significantly bolster its deterrence capabilities. Known for its unmatched speed and precision, the BrahMos would represent a substantial leap in Armenia’s missile defense arsenal.
