EU preparing major aid package for Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union is preparing a major economic support package for Armenia aimed at mitigating the effects of trade restrictions imposed by Russia, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced at a press conference in Luxembourg following talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Kallas said that the parliamentary elections held in Armenia last week had sent a clear message, according to Factor.am .

“The Armenian people voted for peace, sovereignty and closer ties with Europe. Heavy pressure and economic coercion from Russia failed to influence the vote. Today, ministers discussed how we can further strengthen Armenia’s resilience and economic diversification.

The EU is already working on a major economic support package to help Armenia withstand Russia’s unfair trade restrictions. Our new EU Partnership Mission in Armenia will soon begin operations to combat cyberattacks, illicit financial flows, and other threats,” Kallas stated.

She emphasized that the discussions focused on strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience and reducing vulnerabilities through greater diversification and cooperation with European partners.

Support measures for Armenia were also on the agenda of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg. Ahead of the session, Kallas stated that the European Union sees growing pressure from Russia and would discuss additional ways of assisting Armenia.
