Expert: Azerbaijan turned into weak-willed raw material appendage for superpowers![]() December 11, 2011 - 15:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Subsequent "voluntary" withdrawal of Azerbaijan's draft resolution from UN General Assembly agenda reiterates Baku's foreign policy implementation, Armenian political analyst said. According to Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan, Azerbaijan, which never became an independent sovereign state, is urged to implement superpowers' orders, Analitika.at.ua reported. “Orders that Azerbaijan gets regarding Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are a mere reaction to Baku's attempts to distort the conflict. Azerbaijan does not and cannot have occupied territories. This is not only stand of Stepanakert, but that of world powers,” the expert said. The expert further noted that, Azerbaijan's energy resources have turned it into a weak-willed raw material appendage for superpowers. Draft resolution "Situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan" placed on UN General Assembly agenda by Azerbaijan was again withdrawn at Baku's suggestion. ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
