Several Armenian citizens have asked Yerevan's Embassy in Nur-Sultan to help them leave the territory of Kazakhstan, given the situation in the country, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan has said.
According to a Tuesday, January 11 report from Pastinfo, the Armenian Embassy is currently taking measures to help said citizens.
Hunanyan revealed that "two-three people" have expressed a wish to leave Kazakhstan but they don't want to return to Armenia. The spokesperson added that the authorities have no intention to evacuate Armenian citizens from Kazakhstan on a large scale.
Demonstrations in Kazakhstan started in early January when a protest against a fuel price rise began. They developed into a wider protest against Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's government and the influence of the former president, 81-year-old Nursultan Nazarbayev.
